The DVD
This DVD is intended exclusively for school teachers and children and cultural networks and was made in 2006 by Charles Picq for the Maison de la Danse, with the help of experienced advice.
This is a new tool to improve awareness of the art of choreography and Le Tour du monde en 80 danses is the accumulation of experience and savoir-faire acquired over many long years, thanks to numerous awareness campaigns and educational events developed around the Maison de la Danse videotheque’s collection of shows and treasures.
Strengthened by this experience, the Maison de la Danse has turned its thoughts to the request of the CNDP (National Centre of Educational Documentation), for the possibility of placing these resources on DVD.
This would be a veritable “pocket videotheque”.
Le Tour du monde en 80 danses is made up from a bank of images from 80 video sequences, film extracts and shows covering a wide range of dances from across the world.
It invites the user to put to use the cross-referencing system for themed screenings that can be employed in a wide range of situations.
This project is very open and is not intended to impose instruction. It starts with an encounter with dance through the medium of the image and leads on to a living, inventive and entertaining approach to the choreographic art and movement.
The DVD is distributed regionally and nationally through professional networks, in nursery and primary schools, secondary and high schools, universities and cultural institutions that wish to use it strictly within the context of their establishment.
