Yan Raballand

Jeune Ballet du Conservatoire national Supérieur Musique et Danse de Lyon
Bic et plume (création 2010)

The young choreographer Yan Raballand, whose work we have regularly shown, learnt his craft at Lyon CNSMD (national music and dance conservatoire). He has already created two very musical and light-hearted pieces for the young ballet, which delighted audiences. This year, he has created for the first time a piece aimed specifically at children, with the lovely title ‘Bic et Plume’. He wanted to create a visual and graphic piece, inspired by different methods of drawing. He envisaged his dancers altering the performance space themselves, colouring it in as though with a giant artists palette, and even a concerto played by 30 hands, each wearing coloured gloves! The music blends with drawing noises like chalk on a blackboard, a quill scratching paper or a paint roller on a wall. This playful piece is made up of multicoloured scenes and sequences that awaken the senses and introduce young audiences to contemporary dance, entertaining all the while.
