Unión Tanguera
A tango in the best possible taste. Esteban Moreno and Claudia Codega’s shows offer a new perspective on endless sequences of ostentatious routines. This tango is not showy, nor uniquely spectacular or restricted by its codes, but rather it is human and eccentric. The latest show ‘Nuit Blanche’ from this French-Argentinian company currently resident at the Maison de la Danse brings together eight dancers and four musicians. It is staged as a tanguera exploration of the nocturnal world. The piece begins in a nightclub, just as a traditional tango performance has finished, and the dancers turn back into ordinary men and women, blending into the crowd, rejoining real life. After ‘Efecto Tango’ in 2005 and ‘Tango Vivo’ in 2006, it is clear that the concept of a part-theatrical creation enables the choreographers and their sparkling performers to bet on delivering a sensual and topical musical drama.
