Grande Salle
Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui & Damien Jalet
Since the beginning of his career some ten years ago, the exceptionally gifted Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui has forever been exploring our relationship with the divine and the confusions it can cause in shows of a poignant ferocity and of an extreme humanity. After Foi and Myth, the last opus Babel(words) of what the choreographer presents as a trilogy places the man and his polyglot identity on centre stage in his aspiration for salvation. Babel dwells on the words which have the power to heal and cherish as well as to dominate or hurt.
Once again, Cherkaoui, accompanied here by choreographer Damien Jalet, overlaps the genres, unbolts the times and intertwines the types of music and song. The twelve dancers, who come from all over the world, are incredible and the music is made up of a number of intensely beautiful rhythms and voices, performed by excellent Italian, Japanese, Indian and Turkish musicians. A scholarly work that can be understood by all.
