Mimulus

Cia de Dança
Dolores (2009)

From samba to forró as well as mambo, merengue, rock and tango, the Latin dances known as “ballroom” dances are no mystery to Jomar Mesquita and his company Mimulus, which is on its way to becoming one of the favourite Brazilian companies of the people of Lyon with Grupo Corpo.
After a show completely dedicated to tango in 2006, the company returns with Dolores, inspired by films of Spanish director Pedro Almodovar, and by the type of topics and music which is dear to him. Confirmation of Jomar Mesquita’s fantastic talent and constant development. A show filled with passion and desire in pop aesthetics, which makes fun of the fine line separating good and bad taste, the beautiful and the ugly, elegance and kitsch and comedy and tragedy. A right programme!
Dolores demands a great involvement from the eight performers; it is not simply a dance show but indeed a show with characters that dance. Sexy, ambiguous, unpredictable and sensual, because that’s how life is.
