La Vouivre
With the baking of the BNP Paribas Foudation
In the two-part piece [oups+opus] Bérengère Fournier and Samuel Faccioli, the choreographers and performers of La Vouivre, depict one couple’s irritations and minor joys with plenty of poetry and humour. Restricted by their clothes, their movements and their desires, they are at first surprised by the troublesome emotions of their chance meeting in [oups]. Delicious artlessness turning to intense caresses, their dance draws on mundane gestures and creates a slightly offbeat sign language. Later on, the second section [opus], picks up their narrative again on a day that finds them somewhere between tenderness and weariness, stuck in their habits and useless memories. The soundtrack is created live by a talented musician-improviser-experimenter, using the dancers breath, voices and steps as a starting point. The duo enjoys contrasts. Where he is light, playful or seriousness incarnate, her derisory tone remains irrefutable.
