Ballet Preljocaj

ANGELIN PRELJOCAJ
Blanche Neige (Biennale creation)

A creator of fluid and highly-wrought dance with virtuoso roots, Angelin Preljocaj has gathered his 24 dancers for a contemporary romantic ballet in the tradition of seminal works like Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. Blanche Neige is a reverie borne by choice passages from Mahler’s symphonies. In a wonderful baroque setting, with costumes by Jean-Paul Gaultier, Preljocaj challenges the narrative to render Snow White, object of many a fantasy, even more vivid. With a fairyland flair and updated language, this incisive rereading tells a timeless tale with fresh polyphonic freedom and purity of movement.
