The common ground shared by these two short pieces presented on the same bill is the interplay onstage between the musicians and dancers. Each one sparks off fresh waves of sound and movement in the others, playing on their appearance and disappearance. In ‘Barroco’ the dancers Ennio Sammarco and Dominique Duszynski, together with musician Josselin Varengo, selected a number of Dave Brubeck compositions as their starting point, chosen for their uneven rhythm, with its obstinate, repetitive quality and flavour of swing; light, full and carefree. In ‘Fascio di Nervi’ the musician Thomas Luks and the dancer Antonio Montanile, recently seen in works created by Caterina Sagna, decided to explore the polyphonic potential of the cello. In both of these two pieces, elegant nonchalance and highly disciplined movements work in harmony in the same breath: jubilant, libertarian, essential.
