Alonzo King's Lines Ballet
Shéhérazade (2009) / création 2010

Alonzo King, who has a magical science of gesture and space, celebrates the sensuality of dance with incandescence. His perfect dancers, bursting with vitality, are radiant. Choreography on a traditional basis can write powerful and wavy ensembles as well as sculptural solos and duos. Tiptoes and bare feet and arms that are always expressive form a vocabulary which propels the dance beyond the styles and techniques.
The company’s return to Lyon, where it was presented for the first time in France in 2004, is a celebration. Two shows make up this new programme. Based on the East and One Thousand and One Nights, Shéhérazade by Fokine is performed to the music of Zakir Hussain, which reinterprets the score of Rimsky Korsakov. And the 2010 creation for opera voices and sensual bodies. The fluid and energetic body language of the choreographer establishes an inventive and powerfully carnal central theme here.
