Abou Lagraa
In May 2009 the award for best international dancer went to Abou Lagraa at the International Movimentos Dance Prize, an evening broadcast on the French television channel Arte. Before him, the previous winner was Tero Saarinen. Impulsive, instinctive and a relentless worker, Abou Lagraa understood from the very beginning how to establish himself on the European dance scene with his fluid and dynamic dance, fusing contemporary movements with hip-hop and multicultural influences. In his dancing strength mingles with sensuality, expressing and sharing his perspective on humanity. The Maison de la Danse and the Biennale have been right by his side since he founded his company in 1998. His last piece, ‘D’Eux sens’ for two dancers, struck a powerful and disturbing note in the 2008 Biennale. In his new creation ‘Un Monde en Soi’, the Debussy quartet play live alongside seven dancers. On stage the creation of a world is replayed, laying bare the origins of the multiplying generations.
