Michel Kelemenis
Michel Kelemenis is constantly seeking dialogue between dance and music and his new show does not waver from this. For this project, shared with the contemporary composer Philippe Fénelon, the choreographer sought his inspiration in the fever of the bullfight and, of course, the pasodoble, dance and music with contrasts between shadow and light, between major and minor chords. Clarinet, trumpet, accordion, double bass and drums draw a picture of Spain, so dark and profound as to give rise to the explosive expression of passion. These same passions are expressed in the fantastic costumes by Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, who identifies herself through her particularly Spanish design and palette of saturated colours. Kelemenis’ dance is a combination of groups of great intensity punctuated with humour and particularly with caricatured characters – a female bull, the picador, the matador, goyesque lovers and an emcee – taking place in a great golden circle that serves both as arena and cabaret stage.
