Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte-Carlo
A veritable phenomenon, the Ballets Trocadero, alias the Trocks, is an exclusively male dance company formed in 1974 Off-Off Broadway that vigorously continues to perpetuate the art of parody in points and tutus. When they perform on stage, disguised as diaphanous ballerinas, these sprightly lads call themselves Jacques d’Ambrosia, Prince Myshkine, Maria Clubfoot, Margeaux Mundeyn and Maria Paranova… From Les Sylphides through the Grand Pas de Quatre to the marriage of Raymonda, egged on by kicks in the butt, the Trocks perform all roles with equal proportions of madness and real talent. As they explode the false mannerisms of ballerinas and reveal through grotesque playlets what goes on in their extremely hierarchical backstage and their tough world and its stylised extravagances, what is immediately evident is their love of classical repertory and their intense pleasure of the dance. A new programme for Lyon that is as indispensable as it is unforgettable and hilarious.
