Cie Georges Momboye

Boyakodah (2004)

He is one of the best representatives, if not the best, of what is known as dance fusion. Half-way between African and contemporary dance, choreographer and dancer Georges Momboye has successfully combined the best of both. His shows are an ode to the creative energy of the body and the universal rhythm of dance. Following Clair de lune, presented to the young public in 2006, he is now back with Boyakodah, a piece for nine dancers and four musicians and singers, entirely dedicated to life and its frenetic pace. This show has as its theme the presence of two universal objects, the mortar and pestle, symbols of sexual complementarity, procreation, strength and harmony. Light plays an essential role, sculpting the bodies of the dancers, their space and emotions. Boyakodah means happiness in the Guéré language spoken on the Western part of the Ivory Coast. It is not often that a choreographer displays such a programme. This is a title that appeals to everyone not to deny themselves a good thing.
